| Résumé: | تعالج هذه المذكرة مظاهر الحياة الاجتماعية والثقافية في مدينة معسكر خلال الفترة الاستعمارية (1830-1962)، من خلال دراسة التحولات التي طرأت على التركيبة السكانية والعمران، والعادات والتقاليد، والوضع الصحي والهجرة. كما تناولت الدور المحوري للمؤسسات الدينية والتعليمية كالمساجد والزوايا والكتاتيب، بالإضافة إلى النوادي الثقافية، في الحفاظ على الهوية المحلية. وتطرقت كذلك إلى الشخصيات الفكرية التي ساهمت في تنشيط الحياة الثقافية والدينية. كما درست المذكرة مختلف الكتابات التاريخية، المحلية منها والأجنبية، للكشف عن صورة معسكر في الذاكرة الجماعية، مع تحليل انعكاسات السياسة الاستعمارية على البنية الاجتماعية والثقافية للمدينة. وخلصت الدراسة إلى أن المجتمع المعسكري أبدى مقاومة ثقافية واضحة ساهمت في الحفاظ على هويته في وجه محاولات الطمس والاستلاب |
| Description: | This dissertation examines the social and cultural life of the city of Mascara during the colonial period (1830–1962), focusing on the transformations in population structure, urban development, customs and traditions, public health, and migration. It highlights the key role of religious and educational institutions—such as mosques, zawiyas, and Quranic schools—as well as cultural clubs in preserving local identity. The study also explores the contributions of intellectual figures in sustaining religious and cultural activity. Furthermore, it analyzes both local and foreign historical writings to shed light on Mascara's image in collective memory and investigates the impact of French colonial policies on the city’s social and cultural fabric. The research concludes that the people of Mascara demonstrated strong cultural resistance, which helped preserve their identity despite colonial efforts of assimilation and erasure |
